Bayern suffer Lewandowski injury blow as striker ruled out for Champions League tie against PSG

Oct 19, 2021
The defending champions will have to do without their star striker in a rematch of last season's final

Bayern Munich has confirmed that forward Robert Lewandowski will be absent for about four weeks due to a sprained right knee ligament.

The injury will cause Lewandowski to miss his legs in the Bayern Champions League quarter-final against PSG from April 7th to 13th.

The Poland international has another sensational game. So far, Bayern has scored 42 goals in all competitions.

What did you say
In a brief statement to the club’s Twitter account, the Bundesliga champion said: “Robert Lewandowski has a sprained right knee ligament. The forward will be out for about four weeks.”

When was Lewandowski injured?
The striker was injured in the Polish World Cup qualifier against Andorra on Sunday. Leondowski won 3-0. Lewandowski scored twice and was eliminated an hour later.

After the game, the Polish Football Association announced that Lewandowski will miss Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against England due to injury.

In an official statement published on the Polish Football Federation's website, it said: "Clinical tests have shown that the right knee collateral ligament is damaged."

"There is still a short time until the next game, otherwise the national team captain will not be able to participate in this game. This will increase the risk of aggravating the risk of injury."

Which games will Lewandowski miss?
In addition to being tied with PSG's Champions League, Lewandowski will also miss Saturday's Bundesliga match with Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

Bayern entered the first place in the game, four points ahead of second place Leipzig.

The Bavarians have four other Bundesliga games in April that the 32-year-old may miss: against Berlin United, Wolfsburg, Leverkusen and Mainz.

Lewandowski's pursuit of Mueller
In addition to the impact of Lewandowski's injury on his team, Pole's personal pursuit of breaking Gerd Muller's single-season Bundesliga scoring record will now be more difficult.

Muller scored 40 goals in the Bundesliga in 1971-72, a record that seems unshakable.

But Lewandowski scored 35 goals for Bayern this semester, and the club has eight games left in the league season.

Based on his scoring rate, Lewandowski can easily break Muller's long-term record, but he now faces huge odds.

If he misses a month of action, Lewandowski will score 6 goals in only three games left-for such a prolific player, this feat is indeed achievable.
