Every Atletico Madrid game is now a final, admits Simeone after latest draw
Oct 19, 2021
Diego Simeone challenged his Atletico Madrid players, drawing Athletic Bilbao 1-1 into their top four hopes, blocking every remaining La Liga game as a final .
Throughout his eight-and-a-half-year tenure, Simeone has expanded Spain’s two giants to the Big Three – most notably when Atleti won Barcelona and Real Madrid in the 2013-14 season.
However, after their stalemate in San Mames on Saturday, they ranked sixth in the standings, and this season's 13th top flight draw created an undesirable club record.
In the previous game before the corona virus closed, Atletico left Liverpool the Champions League out of the Champions League and reached the quarterfinals.
However, their participation in the next season is far from guaranteed. When they receive Osasuna on Sunday, the fourth-ranked Royal Society can open a three-point advantage.
After watching Diego, Simeone told reporters: "The goal of the two teams is to work hard to win. We started well within 10 minutes of the start, and then they positioned themselves better and won the second goal. They didn't let us attack." Costa found Iker Muniain's quick response to the opener.
"After a well-organized game, the goal came and the reaction came.
"We are getting closer and closer to that victory in the second half. Santiago Arias' chance is the most obvious. He could have allowed us to win in the stadium, and you always have to work hard to win.
"Every game we have a final."
Simeone played the two-goal goal of Anfield hero Marcos Llorente behind Angola, leaving striker Alvaro Morata on the bench until the 63rd minute .
Nonetheless, the Atleti boss does not rule out placing them in the top two in the future and heading to Osasuna in La Liga on Wednesday for the agenda.
He said: "Seeing what I saw and knowing this team, I explained this situation as it is today."#aclozone
"As time goes by, they will be able to coexist. We know that Marcos can make us some incisions, sprints, passes and dirty work like him."
In other places in La Liga on Sunday, Atletico Madrid's opponent Real Madrid claimed to remain second in the 3-1 defeat to Eval.
