'I lost who I was as a player and a person' - Lingard opens up on Manchester United struggles

The 27-year-old enjoyed some catharsis on the last day of the season as he scored in the win over Leicester to secure Champions League qualification

Jesse Lingard (Jesse Lingard) disclosed his personal struggle experience during the 2019-20 season, saying that he lost his sense of self on and off the court.

The Manchester United midfielder struggled to end the difficult battle, scoring the first Premier League goal of the season in the 98th minute of the final match against Leicester to secure the Champions League qualification for next season .

Lingard has scored the FA Cup for Manchester United and the 2018 World Cup in England, but he endured a frustrating season this year.

The 27-year-old frankly commented on his struggles on Instagram and wrote: “This season is difficult for many reasons. I have lost my identity as a player and as a person, but I never give up. Know who I am really on and off the court, and know that after being there, I can get there again.#aclotzone

"It means working harder than ever and trusting the people around me who know how to best help me achieve this goal.

"I know the fans are frustrated by this, but all the time, my love for this club and everyone connected with it has never left me.

"This team, this club is my family, and I will continue to work harder than ever to help this team achieve its goals."
