The two stars have been linked with a move to North America with both of their futures in some doubt
La Liga MX President Mikel Arriola has expressed his hope to attract Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo to his league or Major League Soccer.
The two top flights in North America have been discussing merger matters, and Arriola hopes that this can be held after the 2026 World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.#joesoccer
Arriola believes that with the continuous development of the two leagues, they may sign one of the two biggest football stars in the past decade.

Arriola said in an interview with ESPN: "If we merge with MLS, we will become one of the best leagues in the world.
"The next step will be Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo in Mexico or the United States, perhaps in the final stages of their careers."
Will Messi or Ronaldo play in North America?
Messi's future after this season is uncertain, as the iconic Barcelona figure has entered the final months of his contract at the Nou Camp.
In an interview with La Sexta in December, Messi said that he is open to the future transfer to MLS. He said: "I keep saying that the impression I leave on myself is that I want to Enjoy living in the United States, the experience of living in the United States. That kind of league and that kind of life, but if it doesn’t happen, I don’t know."
Ronaldo's deal with Juventus will expire in 2022, and he also intends to move to North America. David Beckham's Inter Miami is closely related to the Portuguese superstar's move.
Will the MLS-Liga MX merger happen?
Although MLS Commissioner Don Garber said in December that the two alliances have been preparing for a merger for many years, the move "still has a long way to go."

FIFA President Gianni Infantino (Gianni Infantino) expressed support for the plan at a press conference last week: "I think that in the United States and Mexico, the potential of each country itself is huge.
"But of course, if you can combine these two together, it will be incredible. It is probably the best league in the world."
