Nine of the 12 teams in the Chinese Super League have confirmed their commitment to UEFA and abandoned their plans to form a new game, but will face financial penalties from the European football management agency.

UEFA said in a statement: "These nine clubs acknowledged and accepted the Chinese Super League plan as a mistake, and apologize to the fans, national associations, national leagues, other clubs in Europe and the European Union."

"They also recognize that the project will not be authorized by the European Football League Statutes."

The European Football Agency added that the clubs “have promised and will participate in any UEFA club competition in each season where the club has a sporting value” and will “terminate their participation in the company that is involved in the formation and operation of the Super League, and terminate any current events. Some related legal proceedings".

If the club tries to participate in another unauthorized game, such as the Premier League, it will face a fine of 100 million euros (£87 million/US$122 million) 
Barcelona, Madrid and Juventus all face tougher penalties from UEFA for their actions and their refusal to abandon the Super League.

The statement continued: "Furthermore, in the future, UEFA reserves all rights to take any action it deems appropriate against clubs that have so far refused to give up the so-called'Super League'.

"This matter will be immediately transferred to the competent disciplinary body of UEFA."
