Tuchel makes managerial history as Chelsea reach Champions League final
Oct 19, 2021
Now, the German boss has led two different clubs to participate in the European competition for two consecutive seasons. This is the first coach ever.
Thomas Tuchel has become the first manager to enter the European Cup or UEFA Champions League final for several consecutive seasons.
Chelsea defeated Real Madrid 2-0 in the second leg of the semi-final on Wednesday, won the final 3-1, and tied with Manchester City in the final.
Tuchel led PSG to the UEFA Champions League final last year and saw his team lose 1-0 to Bayern Munich.
When BT Sport thought that Tuchel had to do the right thing to achieve such a feat, the manager smiled and said, "Don't, because it's not the same club! It depends on who you want to ask."
Tuchel added: "We are very happy to achieve this goal. I am very grateful to have the opportunity to spend my life in football and the passion for my career.
"Thank you very much for being successful at this level and reaching another final. I am very grateful for that."
Chelsea have now reached their third Champions League final. In these three seasons, they all fired their managers in the middle of the season.
In 2007-08, Jose Mourinho left the club and was replaced by Avram Grant, who helped Chelsea compete in the European competition. That season, the Blues' penalties for Manchester United declined.
The Blues also entered the 2011-12 finals under the leadership of their new boss. Andre Villas-Boas was fired in the middle of the season and was fired by Roberto Di Matteo ( Roberto Di Matteo) took over, who led Chelsea to defeat Bayern Munich in the final.
In January, after Tuchel took over as Frank Lampard, history repeats itself. The German led Chelsea to the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League finals and made the club one of the top four in the Premier League
However, the change in management not only helped Chelsea participate in the Champions League, because six of the club's last seven European finals came after the dismissal of their head coach this season. Only in the 2018-19 season, when Maurizio Sarri won the Europa League with the blues, no mid-season changes have been made.
Tuchel's success at Stamford Bridge is largely due to his ability to strengthen the back lane.
Chelsea kept only 26 clean sheets in Frank Lampard's 84 games-achieving this feat 31% of the time. Under Tuchel's leadership, the Blues kept 18 clean sheets in 24 games-75% of the time.
