Chelsea plan to sign Chilwell after £54m Werner deal

Oct 19, 2021
The Blues stunned the football world with their intent to trigger the buyout clause of one of the game's hottest forwards and now plan left-back raid

Chelsea is actively working to ensure Leicester City left-back Ben Chi after Timo Werner’s release clause of £54 million (€60 million/$68 million) reached in Leipzig (RB Leipzig) Vail's signature.

Liverpool and Manchester United are reluctant to pay this fee for the 24-year-old forward, which allows the Blues to complete the second signing before the next season.

Manager Frank Lampard and defender Antonio Rudiger both spoke directly to Werner before agreeing to move to Stamford Bridge, while his agent Karl Heinz Foster (Karlheinz Forster) instructed the Chief of Leipzig to say that his client was ready to move to West London by the end of the season.

After the acquisition of Ajax’s Hakim Zijek for 37 million pounds (40 million euros/46 million US dollars) in February, the Blues’ total expenditure has now reached 91 million pounds (114 million US dollars), But Goal learned that Chilwell is keeping the same energy signature as the first two teams.

Unlike Werner and Ziyech's transaction, Chilwell's transaction is very complicated due to the lack of a release clause. Therefore, the club needs to negotiate costs with Leicester in order to take him to Stamford Bridge next season.

Manchester United's deal with Harry Maguire has set a precedent in this regard, and Chilwell may cost more than 80 million pounds ($100 million). However, Leicester did not increase the price of the key assets they intend to keep.

The playoff rankings in the Premier League may still affect the negotiated position, because Leicester and Chelsea are in good positions and are eligible to win the Champions League. #aclotzone

Chelsea's surpassing Chelsea may reinvigorate their interest in former star and Bournemouth defender Nathan Acker. Chelsea sold Aker to cherries for 20 million pounds ($25 million) in 2017, but inserted a 40 million pounds ($50 million) repurchase clause, which will expire this summer.
