Cristiano Ronaldo breaks Serie A record in Juventus victory

Oct 19, 2021
A first-half penalty against Bologna gave the Portugal international his new record

On Monday, Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed Rui Costa to become the leading Portuguese scorer in Serie A history.

Ronaldo scored a penalty in the first half when Juventus defeated Bologna 2-0, and Bianconeri led by four points on the table.

The goal was Ronaldo's 22nd place in Serie A this season, one higher than the 21st place he managed in his first game from Real Madrid to Turin in 2018.

After reaching 43 goals, the 35-year-old also surpassed Rui Costa to become the Portuguese player with the highest number of goals.

Rui Costa played in Serie A for eight years and played in Florence and Milan between 1994 and 2006.

Former Manchester United star Ronaldo is still the Portuguese top scorer in Premier League history, scoring 84 goals in 196 games.

He is also the leading Portuguese scorer in La Liga history, recording 311 goals for 292 appearances for Real Madrid, making him the best scorer of all time.

Only Ronaldo's personal rivals Barcelona captain Lionel Messi scored a La Liga goal.

Ronald (Ronald) missed a penalty against Milan in the semifinal of the Italian Cup and struggled in the final against Naples, recently criticized.

Former Italian international player Luca Toni described Ronaldo's performance in the semifinals of the Italian Cup as "average."

"I saw the entire Juventus team in trouble, even Cristiano Ronaldo, who looked like an ordinary player in that very slow game," Tony told Lay Sports after the clash in Milan.

"You expect him to perform well, but he looks physically difficult-he can't even dribble alone."

After the game, Ronaldo's sister took to Instagram, impressing her brother and noting that he cannot always be expected to win the game himself.

She said, "What else can you do? That's it. My baby can't do miracles alone. I don't understand how they perform. Keep looking up anyway. You can't do more, my king." #aclotzone

The defeat of the Italian Cup final marked the only time Ronaldo has reached the final twice in a row in his career. He was defeated by Lazio in the Italian Super League at the end of 2019.
